It was founded in 1982 by Robert &quot;Bob&quot; Yannes (Commodore 64 SID chip designer), Bruce Crockett, and Al Charpentier. Ensoniq was acquired by Creative in 1998 and merged with E-mu Systems. Later the E-Mu/Ensoniq division was dissolved.

The ROM memory has 168 waves to choose from. Also includes digital filters, LFO, envelopes and 15 modulation sources. The built-in effects processor has basic built-in effects. Also has MIDI support and a floppy disk drive.
