Social Entropy was founded in 1993 by a group of technology geeks. In 1999 they started working on a new OS for the Doepfer Schaltwerk sequencer, but it got never completed. A few years later, in 2001, Social Entropy designed AWExtract, a utility to extract audio files from the proprietary Yamaha AW4416 backup format. In 2008 they made their own custom model of x0xb0x, SE BassLine. Social Entropy has made their own microcontroller versions with new features for the 303 and 606 that go by the names Quicksilver 303 CPU and Quicksilver 606 CPU. With all the previous experience Social Entropy made their own hardware sequencer, Engine.
